Scarborough Athletic Under-11s booked their place in the JPL National Finals on July 3rd with a thrilling 4-3 victory against PFA Stockport.
After a tense opening 10 minutes, Artie Dodds bagged the opener from a corner taken by Oskar Walters.
Boro absorbed pressure from the away team and still managed to create chances, with a great cross from captain Charlie Glaves being scrambled away.
Charlie Hughes then grabbed Boro's second after a clever through ball from Artie Dodds. Hughes rounded the keeper and slotted home with his left foot.
PFA then pulled a goal back through a clever half-volley finish.
But another set-piece masterclass ball into the box from Glaves saw Georgie Hegarty lose his marker to head past the helpless keeper.
PFA had their chances, but couldn’t convert, before another delicious corner delivered into the box from Walters saw Hughes volley home to make the score 4-1.
Two penalties were given away in the last 10 minutes, which made it a very nervy finish, but Boro held on to win 4-3, pushing them into the JPL National Finals in Middlesex.
Collectively, it was a brilliant team effort from all the Boro stars.
Individually, there were great finishes from Hughes and he worked his socks off.
Also there was a superb goalkeeping performance from Jacob Askew, while Walters must have covered every blade of grass on the pitch.
