News of the sad passing of former Scarborough FC defender George Siddle

We are very sad to announce the passing of former Scarborough FC defender George Siddle.

George, a proud Geordie, who played 202 games for Boro between 1969 and 1973, sadly passed away on April 5th after a long battle with dementia.
Having previously played for West Auckland Town, Bishops Auckland, Queen of the South, Gateshead and South Shields, he was a member of Colin Appleton's FA Trophy-winning team in 1973.
Despite his illness, George managed to attend the 1970s Boro reunion at Scarborough RUFC in 2019.
His former Scarborough teammate Jeff Barmby said: "George was a very good, strong defender, and also a lovely, kind and gentle man.
"His death is terribly sad and my thoughts are with his family at this terrible time."
Boro chairman Trevor Bull added: "I was saddened today to get this news from Stephen Adamson.

"For those like me of a certain age, we remember George well from his time with us, albeit nearly 50 years ago.
"On the pitch he was a big powerful defender and off the pitch I had the privilege a couple of years ago to meet him, when I discovered he was also a lovely man.
"RIP George."
