Following the Northern Premier League announcement yesterday that it will allow clubs to postpone fixtures on 26th December and 1st January, we have discussed the situation with our manager Darren Kelly, Morpeth Town and South Shields, and we have jointly decided to exercise that option. We want to assure supporters that your board discussed this decision fully, and in light of the current situation, the safety of all, and the financial stability of the club, we all feel this is the right course of action.
Chairman Trevor Bull said: “We all love our football and I am very aware how much our supporters were looking forward to seeing their team play again. However, in the light of yesterday’s covid announcement, I believe this is the right decision to help protect our club's long-term future, alongside our duty of care to our players, staff, volunteers, supporters and our local community.”
Manager Darren Kelly added: "Following on from the statement by the Northern Premier League, I have been speaking to the board to discuss the different options that we have. It has been great having the lads back in training and I know that everyone wants football to get back underway, but at the same time the survival of the club is the most important thing. We will now have to wait for January and hope that things have eased enough for us to safely get back to playing games of football."« Back to news
