Scarborough Athletic FC and Filey Community Sports Club are delighted to have received a donation of 420 tree saplings from the Woodland Trust.
The Woodland Trust is keen to provide local communities the opportunity to get green-fingered and plant more trees and woodland to provide cleaner air, healthier and happier communities for the people and wildlife who share the communities.
We are now looking for groups of volunteers who may be interested in helping to plant some of the 420 saplings, which have been afforded to support the drainage of the Filey Community Sports Club site, home of the Scarborough Athletic FC Academy and provide shelter from the North Sea winds.
The trees have been generously funded by lead partners such as Sainsbury's, People's Postcode Lottery, Lloyds Bank, Joules and Bank of Scotland.
Football Development Director, Paul Exley said "We are excited to get these saplings planted around the pitches at Filey Community Sports Club, which will compliment the substantial pitch works we have started to undertake during this summer and over the next five years, improving soil quality and drainage".
"The tree saplings will support us in the drainage and also sheltering games from severe winds in the future, benefitting the users of the facility at our base at Filey Community Sports Club".
