Scarborough Athletic can announce the club's new manager is John Deacey, who takes over the first team with immediate effect.
Deacey arrives at the Flamingo Land Stadium with a wealth of experience managing at this level and above. His last role was as joint manager at Farsley Celtic, where he helped guide them to promotion to the Evo-Stik Premier Division in 2017 during an 18-month spell at Throstle Nest, before departing for personal reasons.
Deacey started his coaching career alongside Scarborough Athletic's legendary manager Brian France at North Ferriby United. In their first season they won the Northern Counties East League, League cup and County Cup. Following this, Deacey moved on to Farsley Celtic alongside Lee Sinnott for a period of great success between 2000 and 2008, gaining two successive promotions with the club from the Northern Premier League up to the National League.
In between his two spells at Farsley, he spent 6 years at Bradford Park Avenue, which included winning the play-offs in the Evo-Stik Premier Division to reach the National League North. Highlights of his time there also included two promotions in three seasons and reaching the FA Cup First Round proper on two occasions.
An advocate of entertaining football played on the floor, the new Boro manager understands that the club's supporters will expect results and entertainment from his sides. He is keen to instil this philosophy throughout the club, including the juniors and coaching staff.
Chairman Trevor Bull was delighted with the appointment following a robust application process with a high calibre of applicants received from all around the globe. "John met all of the criteria we were looking for, including having had previous success at our level and above. John comes in at a late part of the season, in anticipation of building for next season and finishing 2018/19 as high up the table as possible. We hope all of our supporters give John a warm welcome to the club".
New First Team Manager Deacey was over the moon with the news of his appointment. Deacey said "I've been out of the game for a short period of time due to personal reasons, however Scarborough has huge potential to climb the pyramid and this was a job that attracted me back to football. I have a few ideas of how to change things around in the short term with the exisiting squad, however playing positive football on a great surface and operating with an open mind will be instilled across all my teams".
Deacey was keen to point out the entire club has to have the same philosophy from under 10's through to the first team, with the ambition of bringing in younger players to the first team squad each season. Deacey also identified the importance of the town and local businesses supporting the club, with the Flamingo Land Stadium clear evidence of this with the sponsors around the perimeter of the pitch. "I look forward to getting started on Saturday and I just want the players to enjoy it until the end of the season", Deacey added.
