Race Night tomorrow

Please remember Scarborough Athletic Reserves are hosting a Race Night at the Station Pub in Filey tomorrow night at 7.30pm.

The event has been organised as a fundraiser for the Reserves to help them raise some vital funds for their team.

Please show your support for the Reserves and take your friends down for a fun filled night, you will also get a chance to have a drink and mix with the players and manager.

Horses and their jockeys can be sponsored for £1 each where the winner will receive a bottle of wine or a £5 bar voucher.

There will be a tote betting system in place on the night where you can view live odds on the big screen, 50% of the bets will be paid to winners and 50% will be donated to the reserves.

There will also be a raffle to win some fantastic prizes so be sure not to miss out on tickets!

The Station Pub will be selling pie and peas, burgers and hotdogs through the night from 7-10pm.

There will also be some excellent live entertainment on after the Race Night, performed by singer Sammi Lee. If you want to get down early they will be showing the live Six Nations Rugby match where Scotland take on England on the big screen.

If you can't attend on the night you can still show your support to the reserves by sponsoring a race, horse or jockey. If you wish to do this please email Aaron Best via manager@scarboroughathletic.com.

Pitch Inspection Tomorrow

There will be a pitch inspection taking place tomorrow to determine if the pitch is fit for playing.

A decision will be made as early as possible and the results will be posted on the website. Please ensure you check the website before travelling to avoid any disappointment.

Boro Draw Winners

The first ever Boro Draw took place on Saturday night at the E-Casino.

The winners of the three cash prizes, totalling £175, were as follows.

1st Prize - £100 - Wendy Danby (number 55)

2nd Prize - £50 - Paul Fletcher (number 66)

3rd Prize - £25 - Matt Spivey (number 72)

The club would like to thank the E-Casino for their excellent hospitality throughout and for hosting our very successful evening. Also thank you to Geoff for his efforts in organising the event and helping run the competitions on the night, and also to Lisa who sold a great deal of raffle tickets for the club.

Under-19s game postponed

Tonight's under-19 game against Bridlington Town has been postponed due to a water-logged pitch.

There are programmes available from the game, which will be on sale at future u19s games and from the programme hut at Boro first home games. Alternatively contact James Hunter via james@scarboroughathletic.com regarding copies of under-19s programmes

Meanwhile the u19s home game against Pontefract as been re-arranged for Monday February 20th, kick-off 7:45pm.

Reserves and Juniors round-up

Boro Reserves drew 1-1 this weekend at home against East Riding Rangers. Huw Attwood was the scorer.

While the third-placed Reserves' chances of a promotion spot seems limited due to Bransholme in second having three games in hand, Steve Brennan's boys will be pushing until the end of the season to finish in a highest ever placing for the side.

Bransholme are closing the gap in pursuit of the title however, with three games in hand on, and just eight points behind, leaders Scarboro' Town, who lost 2-1 at Hessle Sporting Club on Saturday.

Reserves regular Wilf Dinsdale made his full first team debut on Saturday against Lincoln Moorlands Railway, playing 65 minutes.

Boro under-19s face Bridlington Town at Mill Lane, Pickering tomorrow evening, Monday January 30th.

Steve Dorey's youngsters will be looking to build on recent improved form, and will include the likes of Ben Slade and Danny Glendinning in their squad - who both played for the Reserves on Saturday.

The under-16s secured a seven-point lead at the top of the Hull Boys Sunday League, with a 4-1 home win over Beverley Albion.

Connor Campbell had put Boro 2-0 ahead with goals either side of half-time, but the visitors notched one back to reduce the arrears.

However, two identical own-goals from the Beverley left-back gave Eric Richardson and Ian Wilson's boys breathing space at the top of the table, after nearest challengers Barham Boys surprisingly lost away at struggling South Cave.

And finally the under-12s were unlucky to lose 2-1 away at Molescroft. Ross Lazenby scored his 20th goal of the season, but it wasn't enough.

The under-12s are at home next weekend against Cherry Burton.

Boro 3 Lincoln Moorlands Railway 1

Boro run of four successive home games ended with a workmanlike victory against Lincoln Moorlands Railway at a mild Queensgate.

There were two changes to the team that lost to Bridlington Town the previous week, Joe Naylor replaced Gary Hepples in midfield, and Matty Plummer’s position at full back went to Wilf Dinsdale who made his first start for the club.

The visitors made the better start and a whipped in cross by Josh Nodder was just over Kevin Martin's crossbar, then Lee Beesley fired straight at Boro's keeper, Boro's first chance fell to Ryan Blott but he was flagged offside after a long through ball from Paddy Miller.

Boro should have gone in front on the quarter hour, a superb one-two between Blott and Adam Lee put Boro's new striker in on goal, with only Leigh Herrick to beat he screwed his shot well wide.

Boro had a lucky escape after twenty seven minutes, a mistake by Dave Kemp gave possession to Lincoln tricky winger Ben Garrick, he rounded Daz Winters but with only Martin to beat, his effort on goal end up as no more than a back pass.

Then Beesley produced a terrific cross from the left for Garrick whose shot this time was on target, thankfully the agility of Martin came to Boro's rescue, from the corner Boro broke up field and Tony Hackworth fed Blott, who in turn played in his strike partner Lee, from a tight angle, Lee's effort went the wrong side of the post.

Just as it looked as if it would be a goalless first half, Boro were gifted the lead two minutes before the break, Miller's cross to the edge of the area was controlled by Blott, with his back to goal and with no apparent opportunity to strike, he was unceremoniously upended by David Hone.

Blott and Hackworth then had some friendly banter to decide who would take the penalty, before Blott stepped up to slam the ball past Herrick.

Boro almost doubled their advantage in injury time when Miller's cross was picked up by Dinsdale who cut inside Adam Louth but could only fire into the arms of Herrick.

Within fifteen minutes of the restart it was game over as Boro netted twice in as many minutes.

Hackworth picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box, his well struck effort was fumbled by Herrick to a grateful Lee who tapped home from a yard out.

From the restart Lincoln tried to play it about, Louth’s clearance was charged down by Lee, his excellent cross on the run found Blott who fired left footed into the bottom corner.

Six minutes later the beleaguered visitors were down to ten men, a shot by Hackworth was handled on the edge of the area by Hone, leaving the referee no alternative than to show him his second yellow, the resultant free kick by Miller was eventually cleared.

This ended the game as a spectacle as Boro spent the rest of the half playing keep ball, the introduction of Chris Hewitt for Lee added a bit of impetus and he cut in from the left but fired into the side netting.

Lincoln did reduce the arrears five minutes from time, their best player Garrick ran at Boro’s defence before being upended by Dave Kemp, Luke Forbes sent Martin the wrong way from the spot.

Blott almost completed his hat-trick, when he sweetly struck a Gary Hepples cross goalwards, only a tremendous save by Herrick denied him.

Herrick then made an even better double save in injury this time to deny Hackworth and Hewitt.
