Election Hustings - venue and questions

The annual Election Hustings will be held at the Scarborough Bowls Centre, North Marine Road, Scarborough on Friday September 24th.

The event will start at 7.30pm, and will be in two sections - a Hustings for questions to be posed to Election Candidates, and secondly a fans forum for general questions to the current board.

Fans who cannot attend, but wish to send questions to be asked in either section via email, can send their questions to james@scarboroughathletic.com

Only paid up members of the SAFC Society are permitted to ask questions of the candidates at the Hustings and via email, and all memberships will be checked. Please include your full name and, if possible, your Society membership number on all emails. Emailed questions without the above will not be asked.

All members and non-members will be permitted to ask questions of the board during the second half of the event.

Please clearly state in the subject line if your question is for the Hustings and whether it is for a specific candidate or all candidates, or if your question is for the board section of the event.

Hodgsons 5 Boro Reserves 4

On Saturday Boro Reserves were involved in a goal-fest away at Hodgsons in the return fixture from opening day in teh Humber Premier League.

On the 3G pitch at Longcroft School Boro went ahead after five minutes, when Dom Richardson scored. The home side regroup however and took the lead after goals from Karl Wallis and Daniel Atkinson.

In added time at the end of the first half the home side added to their lead when Joe Dexter headed in a corner to score. And it got worse for Boro as Hodgsons scored a fourth just three minutes into the second period through Richard Durham.

Boro’s heads didn’t drop though, and Danny Glenndinning and Huw Attwood reduced the arears. However Hodgsons notched a fifth via Wallis again to make it 5-3. An own goal from Johnathan Thorne made it 5-4, but Boro couldn’t find the elusive equaliser.

The reserves are at home again this Saturday, as they host Withernsea at Filey, kick-off 2pm.

Seaham Red Star 0 Boro 3

Boro cruised through to the 2^nd Qualifying round of the FA Vase in a one-sided contest against Seaham Red Star at a sunny Seaham Town Park.

Manager Brian France gave new signing Robbie Hawkes his debut, and Graham Botham dropped to the bench, Mike Price took over the captaincy.

Boro started off looking determined to shrug of last weeks defeat at Chester-Le-Street and took a firm control of the game.

They were playing some neat passing football on a pitch that was heavily sanded. Scott Phillips had the first opportunity when he let fly from distance, only a fingertip save onto the post by keeper Carl Duggan denied Boro their first.

Then Dave Kemp was just off target with an effort from a Bill Law cross, and Ryan Blott was just off target with a free kick.

Despite having the lion’s share of possession it took Boro forty-two minutes to break the deadlock. They were awarded a free kick just outside the area, up stepped Blott again but instead of shooting played a square pass to Frank Belt whose sent one of his specials whizzing past Duggan and into the bottom corner.

On the stroke of half time, Boro should have doubled their lead, Blott was through on goal with only Duggan to beat, but as he rounded the keeper he seemed to have his ankles clipped, despite the protests, his claims for a penalty were waved away.

Eight minutes into the second half, Boro were awarded a penalty, some lovely one-touch play between Phillips and Blott, led to Blott being upended by Seaham defender.

Up stepped Boro all time leading goalscorer to notch his first of the season despite Duggan getting a hand to his kick.

With Boro now having a two-goal buffer, they made their first change; Rob Northern came on for Hawkes, who had made a very encouraging start to his Athletic career.

Next to try his luck was Price who let fly from distance on two occasions in quick succession, his first effort pole axed Phillips and when he tried again from the rebound Duggan made a fine save.

Midway through the half it turned into the Blott v Duggan show, with the keeper just coming out on top albeit with a little help from his goal frame, first Blott latched onto a good ball from Law but his shot was straight at the keeper, then a tremendous crossfield pass by Price fell perfectly for Boro’s number 9, unfortunately for the third time in two games, the ball came back off the post, and two minutes later Duggan again denied him turning a well struck shot away for a corner.

Boro were now in total command, and put a fair reflection on the scoreline seven minutes from time. Blott brought down the ball in midfield before releasing the onrushing Law who outpaced Anthony Laidler before firing past Duggan.

Altogether a much improved performance, as at last Boro decided to play football on the floor instead of lumping it forward, a mention has to go to Nathan Hotte who after struggling somewhat to find his feet in the team, enjoyed his best game so far in a Boro shirt.

Boro Reserves 1 East Riding Rangers 0

Steve Brennan praised the spirit of his Scarborough Athletic Reserves side after they held on to a 1-0 lead with 10 men to seal their first win of the new season against East Riding Rangers.

It was a calamitous afternoon for Brennan’s young side as young winger James Palmer lasted only two minutes of the Humber Premier division one clash before he damaged his collar bone and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance.

His replacement, Callum Reid, netted the only goal of the game when his brilliant corner deceived the East Riding keeper and flew straight into the net.

Boro were reduced to 10 men shortly after half-time when keeper Nick Van Heerden handled outside the area, and sub James Webb was forced to play the remainder of the game in goal.

Boro held on thanks to some fine defending and manager Brennan was delighted.
He said: “They controlled the early stages but the lads came back into it and played some superb football.

“The defence, in particular Josh Clayton, was outstanding and hopefully we can carry this form forward into our next game now.”

Palmer returns to Bridlington Town

Striker Craig Palmer has re-signed for Bridlington Town.

The frontman has decided to return to the club he left in March to sign for Boro.

He scored 10 goals in 15 appearances for the Seadogs.

Athletic sign up former Town player Hawkes

Scarborough Athletic have today completed the signing of winger Robbie Hawkes.

The former Scarborough Town player - who scored 35 goals in 40 starts during Town's two seasons - has joined the club from Pickering Town. He is also dual-signed with Whitby Town in the Evo-Stik League.

He formerly played for the successful Trafalgar side in the Scarborough and District League, as well as Burniston, and should he be picked for Boro's first team squad will become the first player to play competitive football for Scarborough Athletic after starting his career at Scarborough Town.
