SBC Accepts Offer To Buy McCain Stadium

The decision will ensure that the purposes for which the restrictive covenants on the football ground were established, are maintained.

Cllr Tom Fox said:

"I am grateful for the advice and support I have been given by fellow Councillors and officers of the Council and the immense public encouragement that there has been throughout. The hard work now begins as taking the decision was the easy bit. We have much to do and there will be some tough decisions to take as we seek to move things on. Ownership of the McCain Stadium is critical if we are to keep all options open. I feel good about what can happen."

Now that the Council has accepted the liquidator's offer, the liquidator and the Council will need to agree a fair market price for the stadium. This will need to take into account the current restrictions that exist upon the use of the ground through the covenants. Counsel's advice has been obtained upon the covenants and that advice has provided comfort to Scarborough Borough Council in relation to their enforceability.
