Boro snap up Will Thornton from Guiseley

Boro boss Darren Kelly has bolstered his defensive strength by capturing Will Thornton from National League North club Guiseley.

The big and powerful central defender will slot straight into Kelly's plans for Saturday's opening league outing at Atherton.

The 23-year-old has come through the ranks at Guiseley and impressed on a loan spell with Gainsborough last season.

Boss Kelly has watched Thornton on a number of occasions and is a big fan of him.

He said: "Firstly, I want to say a massive thank you to the board, who have been incredible this pre-season.

"Everything I have asked for they have supported me 100%. They have been brilliant in helping me doing what I have wanted to do.

"Looking at Will, he is a fantastic signing for this club, he has the attributes to be a Football League player.

"He is six feet four inches, strong in the air and a quality defender. Playing every week I expect Football League clubs to be looking at him as the season progresses.

"He is a player I regard very highly and I believe he is coming to the best place for his progression.

"There is so much strength in depth in the squad now, but those are the headaches I want.

"If I didn't have them then I would be very worried."
