Scarborough Athletic FC U19s kicked off their Northern Alliance League campaign with a 4-2 win at Pontefract Collieries on Thursday night. Ben Atkinson, who made his first team debut last season, captained the side.
Boro took an early lead through George Walmsley, only for the home side to equalise on the stroke of half-time. Early in the second half Harry Bissett restored Boro's lead and then Walmsley struck again to double the Seadogs advantage.
Pontefract pulled a goal back to make it nervy for Boro in the closing stages, but a late strike from Harry Ward sealed the points in the debut competitive game for the new Under 19 side.
Boro managers Ryan Blott and Denny Ingram were delighted with the result and with the manner in which the team played. Blott said, "It was a really difficult pitch to play on so we had to adjust our preferred style a bit and the lads responded brilliantly. We created lots of chances and could easily have scored more. We still have plenty to work on with us being a new squad, but there are loads of positives to take into our next game in a couple of weeks time."
Next up in the league for the Under 19s is a home game on Monday 1st October against Shelley FC at the Flamingo Land Stadium, kick off at 7.45pm.
