Seadogs Return To Training
Scarborough Athletic returned to training yesterday, as the full squad came together for the first time ahead of the new campaign.
It's been just over six weeks since the final game of last season, against Middlesbrough in the North Riding Senior Cup Final. At their first training session of the season, the players were put through their paces on a scorching afternoon in York.
Assistant Manager, Mark Hume, was pleased with how the session went, saying "The levels of fitness are always good, they're all fit lads. No-one was lacking, so it was a good session.
Michael Coulson, who recently signed a new three year deal with the club said, "I felt good today and hopefully I can step it up a level again next season". Talking about the upcoming season he added, "It has got to be the target (for the club) to get promoted again. Personally I don't want to set targets but I know in my head what I'm capable of doing, so hopefully I can stay fit and get somewhere near last season".
The new summer signings were also in attendance, with central defender Kevin Burgess reiterating Coulson's aim for the club this season, as well as his own ambitions, "Promotion is a must. I'm a born winner and I've come here to win". As with all the players, Burgess is keen to get going and added, "I can see the fan base is massive with passionate fans turning out in their numbers, so I can't wait to get started and meet them".
SAFC TV were at the session and you can watch the interviews below, which also include First Team Coach Steve Roberts and players Tommy Taylor, Nathan Valentine and Leon Scott.
Boro kick off their preseason fixtures with a friendly against a Scarborough & District XI at Silver Royd, the home of Scarborough Rugby Club, on Tuesday 10th July, before entertaining National League North side Spennymoor Town at the Flamingo Land Stadium on Saturday 14th July. The league fixtures for the club's debut season in the Evo-Stik Premier Division will be released in between those games on Thursday 12th July at 10am, with the opening round of league games scheduled for Saturday 18th August.
