Scarborough Athletic To Host Trials For New U19s Side
Scarborough Athletic will be holding trials for their new Under 19 side at the Flamingo Land Stadium on the afternoon of Saturday 30th June.
The team will be managed by former Boro players Ryan Blott and Denny Ingram, and will play their home games at the Flamingo Land Stadium on Monday nights.
The club's record goalscorer Blott explained, "For the trials we'll be putting on a game so that we can watch and assess the players. We want to give the youth of Scarborough something to aim for and the opportunity to play football in the town at a good level."
Blott's former Boro team mate Ingram added, "We want everyone who meets the criteria to get in touch. The aim of this team will be to bridge the gap between the age of 17 and the first team. Also with the home games being played at the Flamingo Land Stadium it will give supporters a great opportunity to come down and see the potential up and coming Scarborough Athletic players."
As the new season gets underway, the Under 19 players will be involved with the first team on match days to help with their development by experiencing how the club works and what goes on behind the scenes. This ties in with the work being done by the Scarborough Football Scholarship, which Blott and Ingram are both currently involved with. Tutoring and managing the Scholarship students, their team won the league this year and two players, Ben Atkinson and Josh Wallace, made their first team debuts at Atherton Collieries in the League Cup in March.
The Scholarship Lead Tutor, Steve Brennan added, "With the boys winning the league it shows what one year of effort and commitment has done. The Under 19s now gives us the opportunity to move them on and then, like Josh and Ben have done, have the real potential of stepping up to the first team."
