Johnny Powell RIP

The club is saddened to hear the loss of former Scarborough FC player Johnny Powell, who died on Christmas Day, aged 81.

Johnny, who played for the club in the early 1960’s between 1960 and 1964, scoring 64 goals in 157 appearances as a creative midfielder.

Johnny played alongside such greats as Eddy Brown and Alan Franks during his time at Scarborough despite receiving offers to play full time, Johnny opted to continue painting and decorating. Johnny was part of the successful 1962-63 team that won the North Eastern League and League Cup.

Johnny's former clubs include York City, Goole Town and Boston United.

Powell is survived by son Ken and daughter Rachel, as well as seven grandchildren.

The club will pay tribute to Johnny on Saturday 27th January when Scarborough host Prescot Cables.
