Match Preview: Scarborough looking to cut Cables power surge

By Joe Usher

Scarborough Athletic will be looking to halt an impressive charge up the table from an in-form Prescot Cables on Saturday.

Brian Richardson's side have won their last two league games 3-2, to move up to 6th in the Evo-Stik North after coming from behind last weekend to beat Glossop North End, who of course earlier that week had beaten the Seadogs. Two goals from Lloyd Dean hauled Prescot back into the game before a Jordan Wynne goal with five minutes to go completed the turnaround.

Scarborough go into the game sitting in 3rd place in the league, with only Hyde United having the potential to go above with games in hand. Boro sit 4 points from early pace setters Bamber Bridge and South Shields, however Steve Kittrick's side have 2 games in hand on Bamber Bridge.

Cables could potentially go 3rd themselves with a huge swing of the scoreline in their favour on Saturday. Their home form has been excellent, losing only once at Volair Park so far this season in the league and forcing a FA Trophy replay with a 0-0 draw against NPL Premier Division side Stalybridge Celtic. The only home defeat for Prescot came to Ossett Town in the early stages of the season.

Team News

James Knowles is in contention for a start after joining the club earlier in the week following his release from National League North side Bradford Park Avenue.

Defender Matty Turnbull has dual signed for NCEL Premier Division side Pickering Town for some game time and will be with the Pikes on Saturday as Paul Marshall's side face Barton Town at Mill Lane. Boro boss Steve Kittrick will be keeping a keen eye on Matty's performances over the coming weeks as he looks to regain the form he showed in the middle of the Boro defence throughout last season.

Nathan Curtis is a doubt for Saturday after pulling up in the first half against Ramsbottom United last weekend.
