Luke Dean ready for new challenge at Boro
Luke Dean is excited to get started at Scarborough Athletic after joining the club for next season from National League North side Bradford Park Avenue.
Dean made 35 appearances in all competitions for BPA last season, and was the club's longest serving player until his move to Boro. The 26-year-old admitted it was a tough decision to leave the Horsfall Stadium after two and a half years at Park Avenue, but cannot wait for the new challenge of playing for Boro.
"I’d been at Park Avenue for two and a half years, but I wanted a new challenge and Scarborough is going in the right direction with the new ground and moving back home.
"Jamie Price sold the club to me, he told me about the fanbase at the club and the good set of lads in the dressing room. Then I spoke to Steve, who I know well from when he was at Guiseley, and he spoke about the new ground and the plans for the club moving forward back home.”
Dean moved through the youth ranks at Bradford City, becoming the first Asian home grown player to make his debut as a professional for the Bantams against Morecambe in April 2010. He then went on to join Harrogate Town, before signing for Park Avenue on loan in January 2015, making the move permanent in the summer of 2015.
He gained national media attention back in 2015 for his freak goal from 45 yards for Bradford PA against Stockport County. (From 2:06)
"I’d describe myself as a box to box, tough tackling midfielder. I’ve come here to try and help the club win the league and to improve on where the club finished last season. The support for the club is fantastic and the numbers that travel home and away is great and should create a great atmosphere to play in."
With the first friendly against a Sheffield United XI at the new Scarborough Sports Village under 7 weeks away, Dean is looking to shake off a hamstring niggle to be raring to go from the start of pre-season training on 1 July.
"I was injured for the last 8 weeks of the season with my hamstring. I’ve still got a bit of a niggle but it should be fine ready to take a full part in pre-season."« Back to news
